Fundraising and donations
Part of our commitment to social justice is making financial contributions to worthy and timely causes, in the form of direct donations from the business, and from round-up programs* hosted at the register.
Our current round-up program is focused entirely on the Maria: Puerto Rico Real-Time Recovery Fund (established by the non-profit ConPRmetidos in partnership with Foundation for Puerto Rico; read more at the link and below); 100% of donations are going directly to the recovery efforts. The weekend of September 30th/October 1st we'll be matching round-up donations (up to $200) made at the counter, so if you're looking for an excuse to buy some books and support a worthy cause, there's the excuse!
*Round-up donation program=you rounding up your purchase to the nearest dollar, or whatever amount you'd like, for us to collect and add to our donation. Easy-peasy.)
Past/ongoing donations made to:
American Civil LIberties Union
Southern Poverty Law Center
Texas Diaper Bank (hurricane Harvey relief)
Flint Water Fund
About the Maria: Puerto Rico Real-Time Recovery Fund fund:
100% of donations to this fund will go exclusively to long-term relief for the victims of catastrophic Hurricane María in Puerto Rico.
- Maria is “the fifth strongest hurricane to hit the United States” (NASA). Puerto Rico largest natural disaster in one century.
- The entire power grid is offline.
- Communications are scarce.
- 80% of the island is without water service.
This fund has been organized and is managed by the non-profit ConPRmetidos in partnership with Foundation for Puerto Rico, a 501(c)(3) corporation, which is acting as the fiscal sponsor. All donations are 100% tax-deductible.
